Are you a current student of Phillips Academy Andover? Do you have an interest in STEM? Have you ever wanted some hands-on engineering experience? Or maybe you've never been a STEM person but just want to see what it's about! If so, read below to find out why you should join THE BIG BLUE BOOM CREW.
The Big Blue Boom Crew, also known on campus as Andover Rocketry Club, is a new engineer-based team situated in the NEST Makerspace. We are a group of individuals across grades who united over our shared interest and now love for rocketry. Some of us had built a rocket before, others had never even seen one, but we all had a curiosity to find out what rocketry really is. One year later we've made it to nationals of the world's largest student rocketry contest and learned a lot along the way. We've formed a close community of students and a few adults who support one another and are always open to learning something new. We've formed a rocketry club that anyone can join, and we encourage you to do so!
As we stated before, absolutely no experience is required to join the club. You don't need to know how to use modeling software or even how to hold a saw. All we ask is that you are curious about rocketry, ask questions, and feel a drive to learn just a little bit about what the Big Blue Boom Crew does. By joining, you will learn the basics of mid-powered model rocket construction and development, how to use software such as OpenRocket and OpenMotor, and how to use tools such as 3D printers and laser cutters. We may even pursue some projects unrelated to the competition such as designing, creating, and firing our own propellants and engines!
So, if you've ever wondered what rocketry is, join THE BIG BLUE BOOM CREW.
